About Us

Parijat Academy is a non-profit that provides holistic education to children from socio-economically disadvantaged communities in the outskirts of Guwahati, Assam. We run two schools that cater to children from 10 tribal villages where access to education is limited. Currently, over 350 students are receiving either free or highly subsidised pre-primary to high school education at Parijat Academy.

Parijat Academy in Pamohi Village outside Guwahati is a 20-year-old institution that takes students from nursery to grade 10 and offers accommodation to children from remote villages. Parijat Academy in Garbhanga, a remote village, is a day school that takes students from lower primary to grade four.

With a focus on the holistic development of children, we conduct both academic and non-academic programmes. We are focused on developing not just a love for learning among our children but also livelihood skills, interest in sports, health and fitness, appreciation for the arts, love for nature and civic consciousness.

Universal responsibility: Take ownership of your actions and contribute to society’s good

In 2003, a young college graduate from Pamohi Village dreamt of setting up a learning centre for village children who had dropped out of school. He had only INR 800 to spare for this project, something he had earned by providing private tuition to schoolchildren. It was a near impossible dream but the man behind it, Uttam Teron, was not someone to give up easily.

The learning centre he built in a 100-square-foot room is Parijat Academy. The centre started with four children in the 4-6 age group. Since then, it has grown to two schools in the neighbouring villages of Pamohi and Garbhanga.

Uttam Teron founded Parijat Academy with a vision to bring change in society through quality, holistic education. He has single-handedly built and grown the non-profit with a commitment to provide a nurturing, learning environment to children from less privileged communities. He is passionate about inculcating values and life skills in children and youth that will enable them to secure their future through gainful employment and make them responsible citizens.

Teron graduated with a bachelor’s degree in science from the prestigious Cotton College in Guwahati before he embarked on this journey. He has won several awards including the Eastern India Women Association Social Service Award in 2009, the CNN IBN Heroes Award in 2011 and the Karmayogi
award from Lions Club in 2017.
